This week we are actively participating in the AFCEA NOVA 16th Annual Army IT Day network modernization discussions. On the topic of network modernization the first example of success that comes to mind is our Passive Optical LAN recent inclusion into the United States Department of Defense (DoD) Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) documents.
These updated DoD UFC guidelines can be used for planning, design, construction, sustainment, restoration and modernization of telecom infrastructure. Specifically, the United States Marine Corps included these updates into the UFC; however, any of the DoD services may utilize these new unified guidelines. This means that a single source of requirements is now available for all DoD planners, engineers and installers for the installation of Passive Optical LAN.
With fiber-based Passive Optical LAN, the DoD can fulfill network modernization initiatives for both new construction and renovation projects. This is a great milestone for the Marines, Air Force, Navy, and the Army, who all benefit by using the DoD UFC guidelines and Tellabs Optical LAN for network modernization.
If you want to learn more about how Tellabs Optical LAN can be utilized at US Army bases for network modernization, you can download our Federal Government Optical LAN Overview.”
